Haiti fall 2-1 to Peru in final warm-up; closing question heads into WC opener
Haiti's pre-tournament campaign closed Friday June 5 at NU Stadium, Miami Freedom Park, with a 2-1 defeat to Peru — a result that sharpens an emerging concern eight days before les Grenadiers open the World Cup against Scotland in Boston. Wilson Isidor scored at the 16th minute on a Louicius Deedson assist to give Haiti a deserved lead they held until the 80th, before Renzo Garcés equalised at 81' and Jairo Vélez sealed the comeback at 84'.
Coach Sébastien Migné lined up in 4-4-2 — Placide; Providence, Paugain, Ricardo Adé, Lacroix; Deedson, Bellegarde, Jean-Jacques, Casimir; Isidor, Pierrot — and saw Haiti dominate possession through the first hour. Peru's tactical adjustment after the 70th minute, introducing Ugarriza and Vélez, tilted midfield balance and Haiti could not respond.
It is the third consecutive match in which Migné's side has led at half-time without closing it out. With one week before Scotland, the "finish the match" question is now a credibility-bridge issue for the WC opener at Gillette Stadium.
