The 25-year-old was a key contributor to Sunderland's Premier League promotion last season — 12 goals and two assists in 43 appearances — but has not started a league game since December, and is seeking regular first-team football ahead of what will be Sunderland's first top-flight campaign in years.

Two other status notes demand attention. Transfermarkt records both Johny Placide (SC Bastia) and Martin Expérience (AS Nancy) as "without club" since 1 July 2026, their contracts having expired at season's end. Both are now free agents navigating the summer window.
