Danley Jean-Jacques drives Philly surge; Isidor transfer saga deepens

Danley Jean-Jacques is the form story of the week for Haitian players in club football. The Philadelphia Union midfielder started and scored in Sunday's 3-2 MLS win at New York City FC on August 16, adding two shots on goal in Wednesday's 2-2 home draw with Inter Miami on August 19 — three consecutive starts and consistent attacking output from deep. Philadelphia's recent run reads W-W-D and the Union remain firmly in the Eastern Conference playoff picture.

The other dominant storyline is Wilson Isidor at Sunderland. Multiple outlets report West Ham have submitted a bid for the forward, with Sunderland understood to be resisting — SB Nation and West Ham Zone both frame Isidor as a potential European-competition wildcard for the Black Cats, underlining why the club are reluctant to sell. Ipswich Town and Hull City have also been linked, the latter's approach reportedly described internally as "insulting."

Elsewhere: Derrick Etienne Jr. came off the bench to assist Toronto FC's equaliser in a 3-3 draw with Charlotte on August 20. Frantzdy Pierrot's Çaykur Rizespor beat Konyaspor 1-0 on August 15 — though Transfermarkt and Flashscore now list Pierrot as having returned to parent club AEK Athens at the end of his loan on June 30, 2026; his canonical squad listing as Rizespor therefore requires monitoring. Hannes Delcroix has posted an 8.3 Flashscore rating across two Super League appearances for FC Lugano in 2026-27, the squad's strongest individual club-level rating this cycle.

"He is a versatile player in the midfield and has proven himself in a top league — a quick, physical player who fits our style of play." — Philadelphia Union sporting director Ernst Tanner on Danley Jean-Jacques

Manno Sanon, the goal that silenced Italy

Haiti's only World Cup. Sanon beat Dino Zoff and ended 1,142 minutes of Italian invincibility — still the standard the Grenadiers chase.
