Haiti qualify for CNL quarter-finals despite 2-0 loss to Costa Rica

Haiti's CONCACAF Nations League group stage is complete, and the Grenadiers have qualified for the quarter-finals despite closing with a 2-0 defeat to Costa Rica (Oct. 5, away). The result was already secured: Haiti won their first three fixtures — 3-2 vs. Trinidad & Tobago (Sep. 24), 2-0 vs. Costa Rica at home (Sep. 27), and a stunning 4-1 away win over the Dominican Republic (Oct. 1) — finishing top of Group A, League A. The Dominican Republic subsequently banned Haiti from their sports facilities following crowd trouble before the Oct. 1 fixture, per the Haitian Times.

Yassin Fortuné (FC Vizela) is the standout performer across the window. The Vizela midfielder came off the bench to score in the 4-1 win over the Dominican Republic, recording one shot on target in that appearance; he also featured as substitute in the Costa Rica defeat. His ESPN log confirms both appearances.

Ruben Providence (Almere City) started all four matches, providing two assists in the 4-1 Dominican Republic win. Jean-Ricner Bellegarde (Wolverhampton) returned to the starting XI for the Costa Rica home win after missing the Trinidad opener. Alexandre Pierre (FC Sochaux) kept goal throughout the window under new Spanish head coach David Badía.

On the club front, Dominique Simon has completed a permanent move to Hatta Club in the UAE Pro League, joining on 29 September per Transfermarkt — departing Tatran Prešov and stepping up to a first-division environment.

Manno Sanon, the goal that silenced Italy

Haiti's only World Cup. Sanon beat Dino Zoff and ended 1,142 minutes of Italian invincibility — still the standard the Grenadiers chase.
