Grenadiers drop Costa Rica clash to finish CNL group; Delcroix leads Lugano

NATIONAL TEAM — Group A wrap: Haiti's 2026-27 CONCACAF Nations League group stage is complete. The Grenadiers finished with three wins from four matches: a 3-2 comeback over Trinidad & Tobago (Sep 24), a 2-0 home win over Costa Rica (Sep 27), and a dominant 4-1 demolition of the Dominican Republic (Oct 1), before falling 2-0 away to Costa Rica on Oct 4. New coach David Badía's side accumulated nine points and advance to the quarterfinals. Yassin Fortuné contributed a goal as a substitute in the Dominican Republic win. Haiti's group-stage exit at June's World Cup — where Wilson Isidor scored twice, including in the 4-1 rout of the Dominican Republic — appears to have sharpened rather than deflated the squad.

CLUB LEAD — Hannes Delcroix, FC Lugano: The defender has been the standout Grenadier at club level this autumn. His hat-trick in Lugano's win at Lausanne-Sport on September 20 drew wide attention, and Flashscore records a season rating of 8.0 across eight Swiss Super League appearances (3 goals, 1 assist) in 2026-27. Lugano host Getafe in the UEFA Conference League on October 22, maintaining European football for the Swiss leaders.

SQUAD NOTES: Several canonical squad positions have shifted per verified sources. Jean-Kévin Duverne has departed La Gantoise and joined Omonia Nicosia (Cyprus). Leverton Pierre left FC Vizela on a free and signed for Académica Coimbra (Liga Portugal 2, joined Sep 14). Dominique Simon transferred from Tatran Prešov to Hatta (UAE) on Sep 29. Derrick Etienne Jr. picked up a yellow card in Toronto's 2-0 MLS win at New York Red Bulls on Oct 17.

"The Grenadiers continue to prove that their place at the 2026 World Cup was no invitation. They earned it through grit, sweat, discipline, and determination." — Haitian Football Federation statement, Sep 28, 2026

Manno Sanon, the goal that silenced Italy

Haiti's only World Cup. Sanon beat Dino Zoff and ended 1,142 minutes of Italian invincibility — still the standard the Grenadiers chase.
